SCRAPBOOKING DELUXE
Scrapbookers, what do you think about the Cricut machine?

With the holidays coming up my hubby has mentioned he was thinking about getting me one. I wanted to know if it is easy to use, and do you use it often? Can someone quickly explain to me how it works? Thank you!

Well to give you the other side. I have heard from many scrapbook friends that the Cricut has a learning curve to it. You are not going to take it out of the box an start scrapping. Many have said it took them quiet a while to learn how to use it. And you have to have a place for it to be set up and plugged in. Otherwise you are dragging it out every time you want to use it and that is a hassle. If you do buy it try to find a Cricut class in your area. The more you know about, the easier it will become to use and the more you will use it. My sister in law has every scrapbook die cut machine out there. Some of her friends had the Cricut gathering dust on the shelf. So she had a "class" at her house to teach them how to start using it.

You may want to look into the Slice first. You need to determine what you are using it for and how you scrap. If you can go to a scrapbook store and demo it for yourself first. Achiever’s has the Slice and will demo it for you.

How many Scrapbook post extenders can be used?

Hi, I’m in the process of starting my first scrapbook for my 2 yr old son. I saved everything and know right off the bat that I’ll need to use post extenders to allow extra room for his album. Is there a limit to how thick you can make the album when using post extenders? When should I know it’s time to switch to a new album? Thanks for your help!

It depends on what albums you are using, but I wouldn’t recommend extending it more than 3-4 inches. The album becomes too big and bulky and the weight of the pages puts more stress on the posts.

You might consider doing one album per year or theme to reduce the bulk.

Many times people start out scrapbooking every single event and every single picture, but over time you learn to weed things out and only include the really good pictures or the pictures that "tell the story" of what happened. You may find that the number of pages you do starts to go down a bit as you get further along.

Have fun!

HEY ALL SCRAPBOOKERS!!! What is the best adhesive for gluing felt to paper for scrapbooking?

I am trying to glue white felt I cut out with my die cutter to the top of a pennant triangle to make it look like snow. The felt is the kind that you can buy in sheets at the craft store. Nothing special. Any suggestions would be great! Thanks for your help!!

Fevicryl and glue gloss. I do a lot of felt sticking. It is really cool.

What items do you need to get started scrapbooking?

I want to give my mom a startup kit so she can start scrapbooking. Just wanna get some ideas on the best stuff to include to get her started.

My daughter bought me a startup kit when she learned I wanted to start scrapbooking. It was sold as a kit, and had everything needed to make an album, the album, page protectors, cardstock and paper in different colors and patterns, stickers, alphabets, other emblishments, plus a booklet with suggestions and instructions. Some come with glue and scissors, too.

Those kits come in many different styles and price ranges, and I think would be great for you to get her, since you don’t know what is needed, just like my daughter. And, it’s cheaper to buy a kit than each thing individually, trying to color coordinate it all.

What do you include in a wedding scrapbook layout?

I’d like to surprise a friend, and create a a couple of scrapbook layouts for her wedding pictures. What should I include in these layouts, other than the pictures?

A wedding scrapbook can be the perfect gift if done correctly. Remember, a scrapbook is a memory holder, making it personal and distinctive will guarantee that it will be cherished. It takes time and effort to accomplish this! In order to create a treasured keepsake for your best friend, here are seven things to include in your project.

1) Different perspectives

You will not have access to the photographer’s photographs. Relying on just your own photographs is a bad idea. Plan ahead and get others to assist you in taking pictures before, during, and after the wedding ceremony. This way, you will get a variety of pictures from different perspectives and can enjoy the ceremony without having to worry about taking a picture every two minutes.

A good way to do this is to buy and distribute automatic cameras, telling contributors to use up all of the pictures. You can even give different photographers different assignments! Have one take pictures of guests, one take pictures of just the groom, one take pictures of the dances, etc. Make sure to order digital CDs from each camera.

2) Quality Pictures

After all of the pictures come back and are developed, carefully pick the best of the best. Be selective, avoiding unflattering portraits, especially of the bride. Then, use whatever computer software, even if it’s free from Kodak or Windows, to edit the pictures to the best of your ability. Play around with exposure, crop, or touch up accordingly. She will appreciate how good you made her look.

3) Things she might not know

You may want to consider adding wedding tidbits the bride might have missed because she was busy… being a bride! For instance, show a picture of the friend who spilled champagne over her dress, or journal about how everyone was gushing over the handsome waiter. These little details will make her wedding seem an even grander affair.

4) Quotes from friends and family

Journaling memories and advice from the bride and groom’s friends and family members is always a great addition to a scrapbook. You can either do this yourself or outsource the responsibility to someone you trust! Include the quotes on individual pages or all together at the end of the scrapbook.

5) Memorabilia from the wedding

Include keepsakes from the wedding in the scrapbook. Save the wedding program, petals from the flower arrangements, napkins, invitations, place cards, and incorporate them in your layouts. This adds a personal touch that cannot be imitated.

6) Choose a theme that reflects her personality

Carefully consider the type of person your best friend is and the type of relationship she has with her new husband. Let their personalities direct the theme of your scrapbook. Consider the colors in their wedding, the songs they chose, and the activities they share together when contemplating a theme. Choosing something that reflects who they are best shows you know and care for them.

7) Space for her

Leave space for her to add her own pictures and memories. She will be touched that you desired her hand in your creation, and she will love that her wedding scrapbook was a collaborative effort.
